Queen Charlotte Meets Her Match — and Calls Him a ‘Troll’ — in Spicy Bridgerton Prequel Sneak Peek

Bridgeton has his new queen, Charlotte, and she has (reluctantly) a future king.

Netflix released a sneak peek for Saturday Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Storythe upcoming prequel spin-off to his hit Regency romance.

In the clip, Charlotte (India Amarteifio) unknowingly meets her future husband King George III (Corey Mylchreest) just as she is trying to escape from their arranged marriage.

The young monarch stumbles upon Charlotte trying to scale a wall. He asks why she’s running, and she says, “Because I think he’s a beast – or a troll.”

George asks if Charlotte’s looks are important, and she replies, “I don’t care what he looks like. What I don’t like is not knowing.”

Eventually, George tells her, “I have absolutely no intention of helping you.”

Charlotte protests, “I’m a damsel in distress. You refuse to help a woman in need?”

He replies, “I refuse if this woman in distress tries to walk over a wall lest she have to marry me.”

Dear readers – and viewers – know that Charlotte (played by Golda Rosheuvel in Bridgeton) eventually marries George and consolidates her position on the throne.

Premiering at Tudum: A Netflix Global Fan Event, the new clip showed that Queen Charlotte will specialize Bridgeton‘s signature love-at-first fight, culminating in the relationship between Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page) in Season 1 and then in the pivotal relationship between Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma in Season 2 showed (Simone Asche).

“Many viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgeton gave birth to her, and I’m thrilled that this new series will continue to expand on her story and the world of Bridgeton‘ said Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s head of global TV, in a statement when Netflix and Shondaland announced the spin-off in May 2021.

“Already there [Rhimes] and her team are thoughtfully expanding it Bridgeton Universum so they can continue to bring the same quality and style to fans that they love,” added Bajaria.

The prequel also stars Michelle Fairley as Princess Augusta, Sam Clemmett as Young Brimsley (with Hugh Sachs as adult Brimsley), Richard Cunningham as Lord Bute, Tunji Kasim as Adolphus, Rob Maloney as the Royal Doctor and Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury.
