No. 2 Lady O falls to Crete


CRETE — The Beatrice No. 2 Class B softball team suffered a setback against unranked Crete on Thursday night.

The Lady O fell 3-1 to Crete in Crete, lowering her record on the season to 14-4.

The game was scoreless early in the third inning when the Cardinals broke through for a run. A double and a single led to the run.

Beatrice would tie the game with a run atop the fifth. Brooke Gleason led the inning by being hit by a pitch, and she moved up to second place by Callie Schwisow’s sacrifice. Avery Barnard’s RBI single scored the run, making it 1-1.

Crete came back with two runs at the bottom of the fifth. A walk, a single, a sacrificial bunt and a two-RBI double led to the runs and made it 3-1.

Beatrice’s attack would go down in both the sixth and seventh innings in turn, making the final score 3-1.

Riley Schwisow pitched all six innings for Beatrice, giving up three earned runs on five hits while striking nine and walking three.

Beatrice only had three hits in the game – two singles from Barnard and one single from Riley Schwisow.

The Lady O will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Ralston for the Trailblazer Conference Tournament.

Freeman Softball defeats Lincoln Northwest

It took the Freeman softball team just three innings to get past Lincoln Northwest on Thursday.

The Lady Faclons hit 11 runs in the first inning and two runs in the second inning on their way to a 13-0 win and improved their record for the season to 10-9.

Paige Mahler pitched all three innings, giving up no runs without hitting while striking four and walking two.

Kloey Johnson had a home run, a double, two RBIs and three runs made, while Dakota Haner had a triple, a double, two RBIs and a run made. Cassie Klein, Kyla Davison and Sydney Lenners each had a single.

Freeman also benefited from six walks and three penalties from Lincoln Northwest.

The Falcons will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to a triangular in Falls City where they will play Falls City and Auburn.

Fairbury defeats Southern

The Fairbury softball team defeated Southern 9-3 in Wymore on Thursday night.

The Lady Jeffs led 6-1 in the first three innings and maintained a solid lead throughout their trek to victory.

Cobie Cole pitched 5.1 innings and gave up three earned runs on three hits while striking one and walking three. Sam Schmidt threw 1.2 innings, giving up no earned runs on one hit while striking one and none walked. The Fairbury defense committed three errors in the game.

Fairbury had 11 hits in the game. Madi Ohlde and Regan Kapke each had a doubles and a singles, Olivia L’Ecuyer had two singles and Izzy Ohlde, Casidy Sipek, Taleia Cervantes, Malayne DeBoer and Addy Marschman each had a singles.

Southern had four hits in the game, a single each by Kendrea Troxel, Taylor Tragedy, Madisyn Rosebaugh, and Morgan Kapke.

Reegan Lauby pitched all seven innings and gave up nine carries (six earned) on 11 hits while striking one and walking three. Southern made five defensive errors in the game.

Fairbury is improving to 4-17 this season and will travel to Wilber for the SNC Conference Tournament on Saturday. Southern falls to 6-12 on the season and will travel to a triangular at Centennial where they will play Centennial and Cozad.
