Ace Nollywood actor Soji Taiwo aka Omo Banke surprised his teeming fans when he gave an interview to BBC Yoruba.

Omo Banke became known for his vulgar slang and for acting like thugs in films. He remarked during the interview that he is a sharp contrast to what happens in real life.

Noting that he doesn’t smoke or drink alcohol in real life, he insisted he only drinks when he’s attending an event and feels shy.

“When I’m going out and I’m feeling shy, I take a small sip of alcohol that doesn’t affect my misbehaving or getting drunk.”

How Soji Taiwo got his big break

The actor also noted that he came from an entertainment family as his late father Yomi Taiwo was a juju musician.

He insisted he had played several roles like Lover Boy, Quiet Dude before becoming popular with his slang and brawl and decided to stick with it.

Soji noted that producers used to give him a scene or two to act, but never a starring role before God shone his light on him.

He offered a great greeting to the late Alhaji Yekeen Ajileye in blessed memory:

“Ajileye gave me a big break with Eran Iya Oshogbo in the movie where I killed Iya Gbonko’s cat because she was a witch and I gave her the voice, that’s why I got my name Omo Banke.”

The actor further noted that it hasn’t been an easy journey for him since he’s been an actor for 25 years, claiming that newcomers to the film industry are now enjoying it.

He advised new actors to be prayerful and to respect the elders who came before them.
