Guardians, Cavaliers, Northfield approved for sports gambling

When it comes to sports betting, the Cleveland Guardians and the Cavaliers are in the game – officially.

Cleveland Guardians Baseball Co. LLC, Cavaliers Operating Co. LLC and Northfield Park Associates LLC have received approval from the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) for Type A (mobile) and Type B (casual sportsbook) sports gaming holder licenses. ) Meeting on Wednesday 21 September.

All three will be able to offer sports betting when they become legal in Ohio on January 1, 2023.

The Cleveland Browns, downtown JACK Casino and JACK Thistledown Racino received Type A and Type B approvals at an OCCC meeting earlier this month.

The Guardians previously announced plans to use Hillside Ohio as its Mobile Management Service Provider (MMSP) and Fanatics for its sportsbook. The Cavaliers chose Fubo Gaming as their MMSP and Caesars as their sportsbook.

House Bill 29 allowed five Type B licenses in Cuyahoga County, and all five have now been adopted by the city’s three professional sports teams and JACK Casino and Racino. Two other companies have applied for Type B licenses in Cuyahoga County — Harry Buffalo and Ravencrest Partners — but are not being considered at this time.

Northfield Park is the only company to have applied for a Type B license in Summit County, which is eligible for three sports bets.

Also on Wednesday, FC Cincinnati Holdings LLC; Scioto Downs Inc.; COLHOC Limited Partnership (Columbus Blue Jackets); Central Ohio Gaming Ventures LLC (Hollywood Casino Columbus); Dayton Real Estate Ventures LLC (Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway); and PNK (Ohio) LLC (Belterra Park Cincinnati).

They join companies approved for Type A and B licenses earlier this month: Crew SC Stadium Co. LLC (Columbus Crew); MVGC Subsidiary Inc. (Muirfield Village Golf Club); the Cincinnati Reds LLC; Toledo Gaming Ventures LLC (Hollywood Casino); and Youngstown Real Estate Ventures LLC (Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course).

The Cincinnati Bengals were only approved for a Type A license on Wednesday.

The Bengals have not applied for a Type B license because the NFL does not yet allow in-person betting in stadium betting lounges on game days. Mobile betting is allowed in the stadium.

Back in April, the Browns announced their long-term partnership with Bally’s Interactive would include a branded lounge at FirstEnergy Stadium. A team spokesman said the team is still determining the best way to implement the Type B license given the league’s in-person betting policy.

Also on Wednesday, the OCCC approved licenses for four sports game providers — GeoComply Solutions Inc.; GAN Nevada Inc.; SUZOHAPP Gaming Solutions LLC; and Sportradar Solutions LLC — and 311 Type C licenses, which are lottery-style kiosks found primarily in bars and restaurants.

The OCCC has approved 811 Type-C licenses to date and has 15 other applications that have not yet been considered. The state lottery commission has pre-approved 1,376 Type-C gaming hosts, which means it could issue at least 550 more.

Here’s the list of Type-C licenses granted to businesses in the greater Cleveland area on Wednesday. To see which companies have previously been licensed, click here and here.
