General Motors [GM] and Black Automotive Media Group [BAMG] Intern returns for second year at Clark Atlanta University – Promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Across the Automotive Industrydiam
The driving force [TDF] Internship program offers HBCU Students with multimedia career development improving the diversity, equity and inclusion of the automotive industry.
A unique internship was created in 2020 and now returns for Fall 2022 between Clark Atlanta University’s Department of Mass Media Arts, automobile manufacturer General Motors and Black Automotive Media Group.
Synced The Driving Force (TDF), the 10-week internship is aimed at students who are interested in the automotive industry; and includes instruction on editorial content, video content production and social media engagement, complemented by presentations from GM executives.
TDF emerged after discussions between automakers and BAMG about more diversity, equity and inclusion for black media in the automotive space. These efforts have created additional opportunities to help prepare the next generation of automotive media professionals.
TDF is led by respected automotive media professionals Kimatni D. Rawlins, BAMG Founder and Editor of Automotive Rhythms Communications; Greg Morrison by Bumper2Bumpertv; and other important journalists and publishers, including Marcus Amick and Teia B. Collier.
“TDF’s goal is to expand educational opportunities for HBCU students who may not be aware of the myriad media avenues in automotive communications… My career as an automotive journalist began with an internship at a major automaker, so I am grateful for the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience and the experiences of other BAMG members with Clark Atlanta interns”, said Rawlins.
Supported by General Motors, the TDF The internship, which begins September 28, is designed to identify career opportunities as journalists, videographers, photographers, publicists, marketers, and digital and social media experts in the auto industry. Participants will showcase their work on various platforms at the end of the internship and will also engage with GM communications leaders, designers and product planners through a series of presentations and interviews.

TDF’s mission parallels that of the Department of Mass Media Arts at Clark Atlanta University, which provides students with a rigorous academic and professional education supplemented with a strong liberal arts education.

Initiatives like this bring them one step closer to that goal.”
Joshua Paul Williams, a student from Clark Atlanta, attended the first TDF session. “The business experience I inherited from attending The Driving Force Multimedia Internship was far more than I could have imagined,” said Williams. “The program’s focus on developing each student’s communication and networking skills individually, which has provided me with lifelong connections, practical lessons and a broadened perspective.”
