Dr. John, Weezer, Kelsea Ballerini, Grateful Dead top this week’s new music releases

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A posthumous publication by Dr. John, Something New from Will and Jada Smith’s daughter Willow, and the return of 5 Seconds of Summer lead this week’s lineup of new releases (all subject to change)…

Album of the week: After six decades of musical excitement, you didn’t think Dr. John would go quietly, right? The New Orleans legend and 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Famer inductee (aka Mac Rebennack Jr.) had another album in the can and “Things Happen That Way” at the time of his death in June 2019 at the age of 77. . (Rounder) is out this week, a 10-track set featuring collaborations with Willie Nelson, Aaron Neville and Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real. Any opportunity to hear this will be the right place AND time.

Album title of the week: Joshua Bassett, “Sad Songs in a Hotel Room” (Warner)

Did you know?: As the title suggests, the Smithereens’ (Tollie/Sunset Blvd.) “Lost Album” compiles 1983 recordings made by the quartet, including the late frontman Pat Di Nizio, between label deals, some of which never did made it onto subsequent albums.
