Cheryl Burke is ready to trade her dancing shoes for a judge’s score paddle.
ex Dancing with the Stars pro said he wants to join the judging team for next season. The news comes about a week after the longtime judge Len Goodman announced his departure from the show.
In a recent interview with Entertainment TonightBurke teased a potential return to the ballroom as a critic and fan but not a competitor.
“I think the whole world knows at this point that I will definitely love. But it’s not up to me,” she said.
“What I’m looking forward to is my future, and I know it’s time for me to grow and see what’s out there,” Burke added. “Because there is life after Dancing with the Stars, so I have heard. I don’t know yet. I’ll tell you.”
This isn’t the first time Burke has hinted at a possible transition to the other side of the judging panel.
“I was a competitor in my day and Len Goodman used to judge me. I also got my judge’s license, so I had to learn all these things,” he said previously Parade in 2018, adding, “I don’t know that many other dancers have done that just because they are younger than me.”
Last month, Burke, 38, shocked the world when she announced Season 31 would be her last to dance alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest talent.

She commemorated her years on the show with a sweet and sentimental Instagram post.
“I’m sitting here full of conflicting emotions about the words I’m about to write… Tomorrow night will officially be my last dance as a pro dancer on @dancingwiththestars. This is one of the hardest decisions of my life & I. I’m also sure that it’s the true,” he wrote on Sunday.
“This show has been my 2nd family since I was 21 years old. The cast, crew & fans have seen me through the highs and some of the lows, and I honestly don’t know who I am today without them. I also know it’s time to start the next phase of my career, although dance will always be a part of me. commitment to mental health advocacy, focus on new found [sic] love for podcasting, & I’m ready to face uncertainty (even if it’s scary as sh**) about the future – I’ve got a few things in mind, so don’t worry 😉.”
Burke’s caption concluded: “Although there are not enough words to express my gratitude and love to all. DWTS family I will end with this: thank you for being a rock & foundation for nearly twenty years during difficult moments & most of all, thank you for giving ballroom dancing the credit & attention it deserves. Not only have you brought joy to millions of viewers every season, you have brought so much light & love to my heart and soul when I needed it most. This has truly been a life experience. I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my career, but this guy will be hard to beat! Until next time… Love you all, always & forever xx 🤍.”
Burke also told Entertainment Tonight one of the many projects she is working on includes developing a dance program that “has to do with mental health and movement.”
“I’m really into mental health right now,” he told reporters. “I believe that I have been given and blessed to have this platform to talk about my own experience. I am not a professional, but I know how to help people by talking about my journey.”
Dancing with the Stars season 31 wrapped there, crown Charlie D’Amelio as the 2022 champion.
