Cardi B doesn’t back down as she presses Tasha K into paying her judgment debt.
The podcaster has been spotted in Africa, prompting speculation that she fled to allegedly withdraw the nearly $4 million she owes Cardi B after the rapper won a defamation lawsuit against her. Cardi B sued Tasha K in 2019 after the podcaster, whose real name is Latasha Transrina Kebe, made several defamatory claims about the Bronx rapper’s lifestyle and health.
In January, the court ruled in favor of Cardi B, finding Tasha K liable for defamation over the defamatory YouTube videos. It seems Tasha K hasn’t learned her lesson when it comes to Cardi B, as she appeared to mock the singer in a comment on social media earlier this month. On September 16, when another rapper, Nicki Minaj, threatened to sue another YouTuber, there were comments about celebrities taking their grievances to court, unlike previous times when they chose not to have legal ones to take steps. Some even criticized Cardi B for taking the action.
“I don’t care what you guys say,” Cardi wrote in response. “Because I bet the same people who commented were the same people who called me weak and sensitive and said I need tougher skin than a woman lied about my health, my father, my mother and all my friends and molested my family… THAT’S what I was fighting while others laughed at.”
However, Tasha K made matters worse by replying to Cardi despite not being spoken to. “Someone say my name?” Tasha K wrote in reply to Cardi. “No one said your name, SEND MY CHECK,” Cardi B quickly clapped back.
According to court documents obtained by Urban Islandz, Cardi B has been granted a Supersedeas Bond Application by the US District Court of Georgia, Atlanta Division. Cardi B’s attorneys filed the motion in response to Tasha K’s request for the court to stop the rapper from foreclosure on her bank accounts and collecting her assets for auction to pay off her debts.
“It is RESOLVED that plaintiff’s application for a Supersedeas Bond be GRANTED. Pursuant to Rule 62 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Georgia law, plaintiff must post bail of $3,863,753.47 to stay enforcement of the amended judgment,” Judge William said in a Sept. 16 filing M. Ray II issued order.
This means Tasha K is now forced to post bail or provide accepted assets in that bail amount pending her appeal. If she fails the appeals process, Cardi B will withhold the bail amount to settle the judgment debt owed.
Tasha K’s attorneys have yet to respond, but her attorneys rushed to court on Sept. 2 to seek a stay of execution after Cardi filed for a writ of execution on Aug. 30 to garnish her bank accounts at JP Morgan Chase Bank.
Tasha K’s attorney, Olga Ismaylova, argued that the podcaster paid all costs (legal fees awarded to her for Cardi’s charges) and appealed after the verdict earlier this year. So she has an automatic stay of execution, and Cardi B is barred from taking any further action.
Her attorneys have not responded to the recent court filing in Cardi’s favor. The podcast recently shared on her social media account that she got married in an African country, speaking of enjoying her husband’s culture and traditions.
